About Our Windows
Double glazing means there are 2 pieces of glass with an air space between and sealed together and triple glazing means there are 3 pieces of glass. The standard glass is double glazed with 1 layer of Low E reflective coating and argon gas filled between the glass. We can up grade to triple glazing with 2 chambers of argon gas and 2 layers Low E reflective coating on the glass.
A double hung window comes standard with a half screen (insect screening) for the lower portion of your window. We can also get a full screen to cover the entire upper and lower portion of the window.
On the South and West sides of the house you may consider Solar Block screening to reduce the sun light.
The windows we install in your home with standard double glazing have a U- factor of .30 and a SHGC of .30. With triple glazing we can get a lower number.
The U- factor in a window or a door is the rate of heat loss, which is indicated in terms of the U- factor or (U value) of an entire window or door assembly. U- factor ratings generally fall between 0.20 and 1.20. The lower the U- value the greater a window's resistance to heat flow and the better it's insulating value.
The solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) measures how well a product blocks the heat caused by sunlight. SHGC is expressed as a number between 0 and 1 The lower a window's solar heat gain coefficient, the less solar heat it transmits into the home.
